Overcharge of 6 Cents for Over 1,000 Trips Along Thomson-East Coast Line

Commuters between Orchard and Queenstown stations were wrongly charged due to an error in the fare table.

A total of 1,335 trips between Orchard and Queenstown stations along the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) were mistakenly overcharged by 6 cents, TransitLink reported on Tuesday, December 13. The overcharging occurred between November 13 and December 2, following the opening of the new TEL stations.

Commuters who exited through TEL faregates were charged S$1.34, while they should have been charged only S$1.28 if they had exited through North-South Line (NSL) faregates. The error, according to TransitLink, was caused by an inaccurate update to the fare table for trips taken between Orchard and Queenstown stations.

Refunds will be processed automatically for commuters using the SimplyGo system, with amounts directly reflected in their bank or credit card statements. Concession cardholders with SimplyGo or SimplyGo EZ-Link cards will have the excess charges credited back to their cards. Those who used NETS Flashpay or EZ-Link cards with stored value will receive e-vouchers, redeemable at station kiosks.

Commuters who have any questions or require further assistance can contact the TransitLink hotline at 1800-2255-663 or visit any TransitLink ticket office.
