The accused allegedly attacked the boy with a pen, causing visible injuries to his head
A 43-year-old woman has been charged after allegedly stabbing a six-year-old boy multiple times with a pen at a childcare centre, leading to abrasions on his face and scalp. The incident, which took place on November 16, 2022, was reported at 3:03 pm.
The woman, an Indian national and Singaporean permanent resident, faces one count of ill-treating a child under her care, in violation of the Children and Young Persons Act.
The charge sheet has kept both the identities of the accused and the child, as well as the location of the incident, under wraps due to a broad gag order imposed by the court.
The boy sustained several injuries, including a 1cm linear abrasion on his left scalp, a 2cm linear abrasion above his left eyebrow, and a 1.5cm linear abrasion on his central scalp.
The woman has indicated that she plans to plead guilty. Bail was set at S$15,000, although it is unclear whether she accepted the offer. If convicted, she faces up to eight years in prison, a fine of up to S$8,000, or both. Her trial will continue in June.
