Tragic Carpark Crash Claims 20-Year-Old’s Life
SINGAPORE: A 20-year-old Singaporean man lost his life, and three others were injured when a lorry lost control and crashed into a multi-storey carpark in Woodlands during the early hours of 22 October.
The lorry reportedly skidded, colliding with the carpark’s side railing. According to Lianhe Zaobao, the driver was thrown through the windshield upon impact, flipping over the railing and falling from the fifth floor to his death.
Responding to the incident at around 12:50am, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed that the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger trapped in the lorry’s front seat had to be freed using hydraulic rescue tools. Three men, aged between 28 and 32, including the rescued passenger, were sent conscious to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH).
Preliminary investigations suggest no foul play, though the exact cause of the accident remains under police investigation. Witnesses described the aftermath as deeply harrowing, with reports indicating the driver worked for a nearby metalworking factory while the other passengers were migrant workers.
