Families Separated by Border Restrictions May Reunite Within Weeks
Singapore and Malaysia are nearing the launch of a land travel arrangement similar to the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL), according to Minister Gan Kim Yong. Speaking at a Multi-Ministry Taskforce (MTF) press conference, Gan expressed optimism that the arrangement could be finalised in the coming weeks, addressing the long separation of families caused by pandemic-related border closures.
Negotiations between the two nations have advanced, with both sides working through details such as health protocols, testing requirements, and cross-border procedures. Earlier, the Malaysian High Commissioner to Singapore mentioned efforts to resolve logistical issues as part of reopening plans.
In the meantime, a VTL between Changi Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport is set to commence on November 29, allowing fully vaccinated individuals to travel without quarantine. Travellers will instead undergo Covid-19 testing as part of the safety measures. This initiative marks a step toward further easing of restrictions and reconnection between the two countries.
