Singapore Records Highest Single-Day Fatality Count
SINGAPORE – A 23-year-old and a 34-year-old Singaporean were among the 15 Covid-19 fatalities reported on Thursday (Oct 14), marking the highest number of deaths recorded in a single day.
The 23-year-old, partially vaccinated, and the 34-year-old, unvaccinated, both had multiple underlying medical conditions, according to the Ministry of Health (MOH). This makes them the youngest Covid-19 fatalities in Singapore to date. Previously, the youngest fatality was a 50-year-old unvaccinated man in September.
Breakdown of the Day’s Fatalities
The remaining 13 deaths were aged between 60 and 89 years. Among them:
Eight were unvaccinated.
Five were vaccinated.
All had underlying health conditions.
This brings the October Covid-19 death toll to 112, over half of the total death count of 207 in Singapore since the start of the pandemic.
Current Case Numbers and Cluster Updates
Singapore reported 2,932 new Covid-19 infections on Thursday, including:
2,412 cases in the community.
517 in migrant worker dormitories.
Three imported cases.
Local infections included 436 individuals aged over 60.
Updates on Clusters
Eight new cases were added to the MWS Christalite Methodist Home, raising the cluster’s total to 104 (14 staff and 90 residents).
MY World Preschool @ Hougang Dewcourt and Acacia Home each saw three new cases.
St Andrew’s Nursing Home in Taman Jurong reported one additional case, bringing its total to 11.
Healthcare and Recovery Status
As of Thursday, Singapore has 138,327 cumulative Covid-19 cases. The current care and recovery breakdown is as follows:
16,723 patients in home recovery.
2,823 in community care facilities.
438 in Covid-19 treatment facilities.
1,511 in hospitals.
Vaccination Progress
To date, 506,552 individuals have received their booster shots, with another 110,000 having booked their appointments.
